UCC Co-Hosts American Climate Leadership Summit

The United Church of Christ is one of three organizations that has joined with EcoAmerica to co-host the 10th annual American Climate Leadership Summit. From April 27-29, featured speakers at the summit will include the White House’s National Climate Advisor Gina McCarthy, EPA Secretary Michael Regan, and youth activist Jamie Margolin. Four UCC clergy will also speak at the event. As a central leader of the environmental justice movement, the Rev. Benjamin Chavis, Jr., will deliver a keynote address. The Rev. Dr. Otis Moss III will share about the environmental justice ministries of Trinity United Church of Christ in Chicago. The Rev. Jenny Shultz-Thomas, whose church in Denver won a national environmental award this month, will speak on a panel, while the Rev. Michael Malcom, who is a finalist for the American Climate Leadership Award, will additionally address the audience as a panelist.

The virtual event is open to the public. As a co-host, the UCC has a few free tickets remaining along with a 25% discount for anyone else who registers. Contact the Rev. Brooks Berndt for more information. As the UCC’s Minister of Environmental Justice, Berndt worked behind the scenes to plan the summit along with the Rev. Jim Antal, who serves as the Special Advisor on Climate Justice to UCC General Minister and President.

The summit enables attendees to connect with 1,000+ climate leaders who work in local, national, and international arenas. The summit is known for its ability to bring together leaders from across sectors, such as faith, health, and government, in working to achieve climate solutions.
