Vote for Climate Hope Campaign
In building upon the success of the 2023 Climate Hope Cards campaign, the UCC will be conducting a Vote for Climate Hope campaign in 2024. As a member-driven initiative, this campaign is rooted in both General Synod resolutions and a survey of local church leaders from the Climate Hope Cards campaign. Through past General Synod resolutions, the UCC has made strong commitments to climate action at the federal level of the US government, transitioning from fossil fuels to renewable energy by 2040, and affirming the intersectionality of climate justice with all justice issues. In a survey of local lead organizers, it was determined that top priorities for 2024 include electing climate justice champions to Congress and advocating for legislation that addresses environmental racism and the harms faced by frontline communities. Our 2024 Vote for Climate Hope campaign will have four central components:
- Vote for Climate Hope Art Contest for children and youth
- Climate Hope Voter Pledge Card collection
- Phonebanking church members before Election Day
- Post-election event and celebration
Let us know of your interest in the Vote for Climate Hope campaign by filling out this form created to identify support for three 2024 initiatives of the UCC Council for Climate Justice. Other initiatives include the Freedom from Plastics initiative and the Electrification Checklist Initiative.
