Staff celebrate Dorhauer with send-off for final day in office
The Rev. John Dorhauer received a surprise on his last day in the United Church of Christ Cleveland offices last month — from the national staff.
Dorhauer, who has served as UCC General Minister and President for the past eight years, will finish his term at the end of July. He didn’t return to Cleveland after the General Synod gathering in Indianapolis concluded July 4, with a move to a new home in Chicago, so the group working on site at the Church House threw him a little celebratory send-off June 22.
Staffers prepared a video message thanking Dorhauer for his service and support, and those present gathered for lunch after a group photo.
Dorhauer was both surprised and moved by the gathering and though he couldn’t say much he expressed both gratitude and pride in the group he’s led since his election in General Synod in Cleveland in 2015.
