Love Notes #7

Dear Beloved Young People,

I’m a trans pastor in Washington state, and I’m praying for all of you, and I love you. I wish I could tell you in person, but I hope this note finds its way to some of you.

One of my favorite songs has a line “I know this [heavenly] robe is gonna suit me well, I tried it on at the gates of Hell.” God doesn’t want anybody to suffer, and God is deeply present with everyone who is suffering.

My colleagues and I in the United Church of Christ, and in many other faith traditions, are holding you in our hearts every day. We are gonna keep bringing our rage, our hope, our fabulousness, and sheer foolish stubbornness to this work of making space for all of you. Until we succeed, and everyone is celebrated for who they are and who they are called to be.

They can slow us down. But nothing on heaven or earth can stop the Spirit.

As long as I draw breath,

Davi
