Advent Calendar

Advent Calendar

Throughout the season of Advent, explore theological and scriptural musings to help deepen our denomination-wide understanding of abolition as part of our efforts to move toward racial justice.

Calendar

The UCC’s Racial Justice Ministries embraces the season of Advent as an invitation to hold together visions of the future for which we are waiting and preparing for, and the recognition of how deep our longing is for that future to be made flesh in this present moment. Our practices of Advent are practices of abolition, because abolition calls us to dismantle the enslaving paradigms of our day as we imagine and prepare the way for a future of freedom and flourishing for all.

“Abolition… requires profound transformation within each of us – in how we see, experience, and relate to the world around us – and of the societies we create and perpetuate. …We need to seek out as many portals as we can find into futures we cannot currently imagine and practice them every day.”
– Practicing New Worlds by Andrea J. Ritchie
