UCC Office of Public Policy & Advocacy in
Washington D.C.
The Office of Public Policy & Advocacy in Washington D.C. offers leadership for social action concerns in the UCC and provides resources to the national, conference and local churches.
In responding faithfully to God’s call for abundant life for all people, a common life in which no one is left behind, we are drawn inevitably to engage in public policy advocacy. There is an inherent connection between the Gospel call to respond to the hungry — the thirsty, the stranger, those in prison, and those who are sick — and the policy decisions that determine funding for school meal programs, standards for clean air, soil and water, sentencing for nonviolent offenders, and health care access. Advocacy is essential to participating in God’s mission in the world.
Raising the prophetic voice of the United Church of Christ on Capitol Hill in pursuit of a just world for all.

Join the Justice & Peace Action Network

The Justice and Peace Action Network (JPANet) is our denomination’s grassroots advocacy network composed of individual members and local UCC congregations across the country. The JPANet both educates and engages its members in shaping public policy and keeping with God’s vision of a just and loving society. Our work is grounded in General Synod resolutions, consonant with historic UCC witness, and formed by a biblical understanding of prophetic ministry.

Learn About Our Office
The UCC Washington Office was called into being by a resolution at General Synod 10 in 1975. This predecessor body to Justice and Local Church Ministries, then called the Office for Church in Society, was created to assume a leadership function for social action concerns in the UCC and to provide resources to the national, conference and local churches.
