Living Psalm Luke 1:68-79

Living Psalms Book

Psalms in the form of words and art, reborn in the specific contexts of our world, privileging the voices of historically marginalized communities and those acting in solidarity with them.

(#Living Psalm) Luke 1:68-79
A New Day

Blessed be the Lord God,
who continues to look favorably on all God’s people
God who guides our feet into the way of peace and justice.

The word of the prophet comes today
crying out for justice
weeping at the destruction of the land
lamenting the neglect of the poor and the needy
reaching out to those who sit in the darkness,
longing for relief and hope.

Fear is palpable in the land
an imposition at the hand of the enemy
the oppressor decrying civil rights,
people denied their human rights
hatred going wild, seeds scattered
from the weeds of misinformation and disinformation.

The mercy of God is promised to all God’s people
the covenant God made with our ancestors
remains with us today
a history of God at work in the world
working with our ancestors
saving those who came before from violence in the land.

God of our ancestors, of ages past
is God of our future
God who sustains and holds us
God who rescues us from tyranny
the mercy of God breaks like the dawn of a new day
a new day where God’s holiness and righteousness prevail.
