Texas – Intermediate Response

Hurricane Harvey made landfall near Corpus Christi, Texas on August 25 as a Category 4 hurricane with 130mph winds. The storm caused widespread flooding and significant damage across southern Texas and Louisiana as the slow moving storm dropped several feet of water throughout the region.  UCC pastors describe the experience and more in this video “Love Them Back to Life”.

The UCC has teamed up with partners for two different site options for volunteers in Houston.

Location: Houston, TX 
Tasks: Flood “Muck & Gut”

Period: Arrive Sunday to begin work on Monday. Depart Saturday.
Accommodation: Cots, Showers, Meeting Spaces at St. George’s Orthodox Church. Prepared food provided.
Minimum Age: 16 years. Those under age 18 require a completed permission form.
Maximum number of volunteers per week at site: 20
Cost: No cost

Fuller Center Disaster ReBuilders

Location: Clear Lake, TX  
Tasks: Flood rebuilding

Period: Arrive Sunday to begin work on Monday. Depart Saturday.
Accommodation: Cots, Showers, Meeting Spaces. Prepared food provided.
Minimum Age: 16 years. Those under age 18 require a completed permission form.
Maximum number of volunteers per week at site: 65 (Multiple small groups may be on site during any particular week)
Cost: $100 per person per week
