‘We call for an end to this belligerency:’ UCC-DOC joint statement condemns US-Israel attacks on Iran, calls on all countries to refrain from threats
The United Church of Christ and the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), along with its joint witness, Global Ministries, release a statement following the United States-Israel attacks on Iran, calling for ‘an end to this belligerency,’ the statement reads in part.
“With renewed US and Israeli aggression against Iran, the potential for large-scale destruction of lives and communities in Iran, the Gulf region, Israel, Lebanon, and elsewhere is great and unpredictable,” the statement read in part.
The statement follows a similar statement released by UCC General Minister and President/CEO the Rev. Karen Georgia Thompson this past Saturday, asking people of faith, and elected officials alike to call for an end to the escalating attacks and the restoration of peace in the Middle East.
US President Donald Trump says operations in Iran are likely to last up to four-five weeks, but said he’s prepared ‘to go far longer,’ according to a report by the Associated Press. He then said he wouldn’t get “bored” of continuing the operation over such time.
“I don’t get bored. There’s nothing boring about this,” said Trump at an unrelated event at The White House.
The statement, which has been endorsed by Thompson, as well as Rev. Shari Prestemon, Associate General Minister and Co-Executive of Global Ministries, and DOC leadership, can be viewed below.
