‘Sex Ed for All’ month in May kicks off with webinar

Join the United Church of Christ and SEICUS (Sex Ed for Social Change) for a webinar on Tuesday, May 7 at 7 p.m. EST, entitled “Integrating Sex Education in Faith Communities.”

Led by SEICUS board member Rev. Naomi Washington-Leapheart, and featuring Rev. Amy Johnson, UCC minister for sexuality education and justice, and Dr. Melanie Davis at the Unitarian Universalist Association, this webinar will explore the intersection of comprehensive sexuality education (CSE) and faith-based community teachings, demonstrating how integrating CSE can enhance educational outreach within various religious settings.

Delve into the principles and practices of the Our Whole Lives (OWL) curriculum, a pioneering model that aligns with both secular and faith-based values. Through discussions led by experienced educators from the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) and the United Church of Christ (UCC), participants will learn how CSE is not only compatible with, but also enriching to, religious teachings and community values.

The webinar aims to challenge common misconceptions about sex education in religious settings, highlighting how CSE supports rather than undermines the role of families and faith in young people’s lives. It will address the critical role of faith communities in providing a framework for healthy, informed, and values-driven discussions about sexuality and identity.
