Class of 2025, At Large

Eleanore (Elly) Chong (Class of 2025, At Large) is active in the social and political life of the state. She has run for political office, worked with non-profits, and protested against the Vietnam War. She attended Hawaii public schools, received her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees (in Political Science) from the University of Hawaii-Manoa, and had further study at the London School of Economics and Political Science where she earned a M.Sc. in the History of Political Thought. She attends the church she grew up in, Central Union. Her parents, the late Rev. and Mrs. Kim On and Pearl Chong, joined Central Union in 1952 as an intentional move to help integrate the congregation. Her father, a United Church of Christ minister, was chaplain for 33 years at a Congregational prep school, Mid-Pacific Institute. Over the years she has held many positions at Central Union including Moderator and Trustee. Elly has been privileged to participate in many settings of the United Church of Christ. Her hope is to bring that experience and an open heart to the work of the United Church of Christ Board.
