In poorest Vermont community, a church teen center ‘rocks’ God’s love for all
Club West for Teens opened in the basement of First Congregational UCC in West Brattleboro, Vermont, this past winter. The initiative, supported by the Vermont Conference of the United Church of Christ’s Hope Fund, as well as crowdsourcing and individual donations within the community, provides a safe and welcoming haven for teens who are living in the poorest town in the Green Mountain state, according Census reports.
UCC News reporter, Donna Frischknecht Jackson, caught up with the Rev. Jeremy Kirk to learn about how teens are taking ownership of the club and how the stage — complete with a generously donated sound system and drum set — has become the heart of project, providing a venue for all to “rock” God’s love.
