Jan Gomoll, 72
Long-time United Church of Christ national staff member Janet “Jan” Gomoll died Jan. 21 in Bay Village, Ohio. She was 72.
During her time at the UCC until her retirement in 2021, Gomoll interacted with thousands of UCC members through her administrative work with General Synods and other meetings, as an executive assistant in Local Church Ministries and its Evangelism and Church Growth team, and as a staff member of the Hospitality Ministries and Events Services. She was a member of the former Amistad Chapel UCC, the local church that used to meet at 700 Prospect Avenue in downtown Cleveland when the UCC’s national offices were there.
“We are deeply saddened to receive the news of Jan’s death,” said UCC General Minister and President the Rev. Karen Georgia Thompson. “Jan was a tremendous gift to the national setting and to Amistad Chapel UCC where she was a member. Her generosity and kind spirit provided leadership for many service projects which assisted the indigent communities of Cleveland and the surrounding areas. I continue to pray for those who loved and knew Jan as we celebrate her life and mourn her death.”
Friends and family are invited to gather for a visitation Friday, Feb. 2 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Sunset Chapel, 6245 Columbia Rd., North Olmsted, Ohio. A funeral service will be held Saturday, Feb. 3 at 10 a.m. at the chapel. Sunset Funeral and Cremation Services is handling arrangements.
