UCC Board begins process to consider renomination of AGM Karen Georgia Thompson
The United Church of Christ Board is beginning the renomination process for the Rev. Karen Georgia Thompson as UCC associate general minister and is inviting members of the church to offer comments on her leadership. Thompson completes her first four-year term in office at the end of July, 2023.
Following UCCB Standing Rules, a UCCB Renomination Committee is soliciting the feedback. The committee is looking for comment from members of the UCCB Executive Committee who have served during Thompson’s term in office, current members of the Cabinet of Council of Conference Ministers, three UCC seminary presidents, and three ecumenical partners who have worked with her. Several former Conference moderators will be included, as well as her fellow national officers and the national staff. Thompson will also be called for an interview.
That information and feedback, along with the responses collected on ucc.org, will be used by the Renomination Committee to create a report and recommendation that will be presented to the Board at its fall 2022 meeting.
Individuals who want to participate should view the associate general minister renomination process page and use the submission form to comment on Thompson’s work and leadership as associate general minister, Wider Church Ministries and Operations, and co-executive of Global Ministries. The information will go by direct email to Julia Gaughan, chair of the Renomination Committee.
The deadline for comments via this web page is Sept. 1, 2022. The UCCB will vote on Thompson’s renomination in October. Her nomination and reelection would be brought to the 34th General Synod for its consideration in July 2023.
