Resolutions from General Synod 26

General Synod 26 considered 17 proposed resolutions during plenary sessions on June 25 and June 26.

The following resolutions were adopted by the Twenty-sixth General Synod. It is believed each of these documents is accurate, reflecting the original wording and the wording of various amendments to many of these resolutions brought in committee and on the floor of the Synod. However, the final wording of the adopted resolutions will not be official until they are approved within the body of the Minutes of the Twenty-sixth General Synod by the Executive Council in October 2007.

Against Depleted Uranium Weapons
Status: Adopted, as amended by committee, on Tuesday afternoon, June 26, 2007.
 Final

Call For A More Humane United States Immigration Policy
Status: Combined with similar resolutions into new motion, adopted Tuedsay afternoon, June 26, 2007.
 Final

Legalization of Physician Aid in Dying
Status: Adopted, as amended by committee, on Tuesday afternoon, June 26, 2007, calling for a churchwide study on the issue.

Reaffirming our Faith to Retain our Churches renamed
Reaffirming our Commitment to Covenantal Relationships
Status: Adopted, with amendments, on Tuesday afternoon, June 26, 2007.

Regarding the Tar Creek Superfund Site
Status: Approved by delegates at the afternoon session on Monday, June 25, 2007.

Renewing the Covenant with the Rural Church
Status: Approved by delegates at the morning session on Tuesday, June 26, 2007.

Status: Approved by delegates, with an amendment, at the afternoon session on Monday, June 25, 2007.

A Resolution to Recognize 2007 as a Sabbath Year
Status: Approved by delegates at the morning session on Tuesday, June 25, 2007.

Status: Approved by delegates on Tuesday, June 26, 2007.

A Resolution on Worker Justice at Smithfield
Status: Approved by delegates at the afternoon session on Monday, June 25, 2007.

The General Synod took no action on three proposed resolutions, A Reaffirmation of Marriage Based on the Word of God, A Reaffirmation of the Historic and Ecumenical Christian Perspective on Marriage and Returning to Unity and Diversity in the United Church of Christ.  The proposed resolution called In Support of a Renewed and Balanced Study and Response to the Conflict Between Palestine and Israel was sent to an Implementing Body, as was a Substitute Motion replacing the proposed resolution called Changing the Composition of the General Synod.  The three proposed resolutions dealing with immigration were amended and combined into the one resolution shown above.
