“Love for Today” Written by Karen Georgia A. Thompson
Psalm 36:5-10
Generation to generation, the steadfast love of God
ever-present, ever-holy, ever-true
extends in all directions – east, west, north and south
from the heavens to the earth, rising above the clouds
saving all people
saving all life God created
God’s faithfulness a precious gift for all
given to us, for this generation.
God’s steadfast love and righteousness
moved the mighty mountains of hatred and discrimination
this steadfast love:
a place of refuge for the weak
a place of hope for the hopeless
a place of strength for the weary
a place of courage for the downtrodden
a source of wisdom for dismantling oppression.
God’s steadfast love!
Present in the quest for freedom
giving vision for life abundant to the Ancestors
a beacon shining brightly beyond injustice
showing the way to the fountain of life
to the rivers of freedom
in God’s light, light is seen
the light of love, piercing the darkness of pain and disdain.
God’s steadfast love continues with this generation
pointing the way to freedom
those who know the living God
those who have read the annals of history
have seen the salvation of God
bringing justice to the land, freeing those who mourned
God’s steadfast love will prevail
love given to all from generation to generation.
