‘We are fighting for freedom’- Rev. Karen Georgia Thompson issues special Martin Luther King Day video
The Rev. Karen Georgia Thompson, United Church of Christ General Minister and President/CEO issued a special video message ahead of the Martin Luther King, Jr. Day holiday on Monday, January 19. In the video, she referenced King’s August 1963 Letter from Birmingham Jail, citing his ‘Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere’ line that is used by many advocating for a more fair and just world.
“63 years later, we are living through these times again, struggling with notions of belonging, wrestling with the emergence of tyranny, neocolonialism, and oppressive strategy,” Thompson said. “We are fighting for freedom for all.”
