UCC to host discussion of ‘The Global Rise of Religious Nationalism’ in hybrid event
Religious Nationalism is not only shaping political and religious landscapes in the United States — it is emerging as a powerful force in countries around the world. How is this movement spreading globally? What theological, political, and social dynamics are fueling it? And how are churches called to respond?
The United Church of Christ welcomes the Rev. Philip Peacock, the General Secretary of the World Communion of Reformed Churches, and a leader in global ecumenism and justice advocacy, to reflect on these questions. Drawing on his international experience, Peacock will examine how Religious Nationalism appears in different cultural contexts around the globe.
During this conversation, UCC General Minister and President/CEO, and President of the World Communion of Reformed Churches, the Rev. Karen Georgia Thompson will share perspective on the impact of Religious and Christian Nationalism in the United States.

The “Global Rise of Religious Nationalism: Implications & the Church’s Response” event will be held April 12, 2026, starting at 11:30 a.m. ET at Olmsted Community Church, 7853 Main Street, Olmsted Falls, Ohio. The event is accessible both online and in-person. Some may choose to stream the discussion as a group at church following their worship service.

The UCC wishes to thank Olmsted Community Church Pastor, the Rev. Steven Gower and his team for hosting the event at their place of worship.
