UCC Desk Calendar and Plan Book launches special cover kicking off 70th anniversary celebrations
Arguably the most popular resource that is sold by the United Church of Christ, the Desk Calendar and Plan Book is more than just a calendar. It’s a gateway into the life of the church, full of resources, important dates, liturgical calendars, and fun facts about the many different ministries and programs of the UCC.
To commemorate the 70th anniversary of the UCC in 2027, a special cover of the Desk Calendar and Plan Book was released, featuring photos from the past 70 years highlighting the rich, storied, and diverse history of the denomination.
The Rev. Karen Georgia Thompson, UCC’s General Minister and President/CEO, in her letter to the church (printed in the front inside cover) wrote that being a united and uniting church is a ‘cause for celebration,’ and that the 70th anniversary is a time of ‘prayer and celebration.’
“It is a time to attend to the world in crisis,” said Thompson in the letter. “It is a time for the church to celebrate its history, to acknowledge occasions where the UCC did not get it right, and to live into the calling to go deeper spiritually as we continue to seek a just world for all.”
In addition to Thompson’s letter, the Desk Calendar is full of resources, links, and reminders about various initiatives, programs, and events across the life of the denomination. Some of those resources include:
- QR codes to resource pages, including Neighbors in Need Stewardship Resources,
- Freewill.com/ucc, the UCC’s initiative to provide free estate planning tool for UCC members,
- Christmas Fund materials,
- Fun facts about the Special Mission Offerings, and why support is critical to continue to carry out the mission and vision of the UCC,
- Reminders to order worship resources, and other materials,
- A full staff directory of the National Ministries, as well as our affiliated and associate ministries, and much more.
“For over four decades multiple teams have touched this project and shared both time and talent creating such a worthwhile resource and point of connection between our National Ministries and the people we serve and support,” said Megan Vogias, the UCC’s director of Marketing & Communications. “My prayer is that you find just as much joy in using it as we do in creating it.”
A quick note: we are aware of several errors that were published in this year’s Desk Calendar. We are working to strengthen our internal editorial processes and are working to ensure a more accurate, robust resource for the church. We apologize for any confusion that was caused.
