UCC and Disciples leaders offer solidarity and encourage study of the Kairos Palestine II document, “A Moment of Truth: Faith in a Time of Genocide”
Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) and United Church of Christ General Ministers and Presidents, Rev. Terri Hord Owens and Rev. Dr. Karen Georgia Thompson, and Global Ministries Co-Executives, Rev. Dr. LaMarco Cable and Rev. Shari Prestemon, issued an Advent letter following the issuance of the recently-released “A Moment of Truth: Faith in a Time of Genocide” document by Kairos Palestine. “Faith in a Time of Genocide” is the second major letter issued by Kairos Palestine, the first having been released in December 2009.
The Disciples and UCC leaders’ letter points to the urgency of “the context of the especially devastating catastrophe of genocide,” and states, “As we receive this new call from our Palestinian Christian siblings, we likewise urge you to read it carefully and reflect on how you can take action.”
The letter closes by quoting the Kairos Palestine II document, “From the heart of pain, genocide and displacement, we raise this cry, a prophetic cry of steadfastness,” responding by stating, “May we continue to walk in solidarity with our partners so that a peace with justice may prevail in the land of Jesus’ birth and ministry.”
