Standing with Minneapolis: Hundreds, including local clergy, rally against ICE in Cleveland’s Public Square
A national day of economic protest and blackout made its way to Cleveland and Northeast Ohio. Protestors from across the region, including clergy, made their way to Public Square in downtown on Friday, January 30 to participate in what was called an “ICE Out,” stemming from the occupation of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers across the country, including Minneapolis. The idea was for protestors to call off work, school, and not to shop in an effort to call for the removal of federal agents from cities around the country, including Cleveland.
According to a poll by YouGov, Americans have “very little” confidence in ICE after the fatal shootings of Renee Nicole Good and Alex Pretti in Minneapolis. A majority of 51 percent of those polled say they are in support of decreasing funding of ICE by “a little” or “a lot.”
UCC News attended the local ICE Out protest and spoke with some of the protestors, including local clergy. You can view the video shot by the UCC’s Bob Lormor, with reporting by news director Charles Jefferson, Jr., below.
