Send a prayer shawl along to General Synod 35
There’s been a buzz about Missouri, Kansas – can you hear it? It’s more of a clicking sound at times, and at other times, a subtle bit of clacking. More than a few people of the United Church of Christ have begun making prayer shawls for General Synod 35, which is in Kansas City at the Expo Center this July 11-15. While celebratory much of the time, with so much worship and church work, General Synod can be exhausting and often emotional. Prayer shawls are soothing for participants while they continue to God’s work. Those who receive them greatly appreciate this gift.

There are no particular requirements except that it be purposed as a shawl. The Rev. Merlyn Lawrence suggests 20” x 60” shawls, and shared this about her prayer:
“As I knit, stitch by stitch, I prayed that the recipient of my shawl and your shawl, would indeed feel the love, the prayers, the embrace, the hugs, the comfort, the warmth of our Mothering God that all of us are enfolding into these beautiful shawls.”
For help with ideas for a prayer shawl, Lawrence suggests trying YouTube to find the video that fits you. There are many great ideas. Registration is now open for General Synod.

There are two options for delivering shawls for General Synod recipients:
First, mail or deliver shawls to Plymouth Congregational Church, attn: Kim Manz, 925 Vermont St, Lawrence, KS 66044. For delivery concerns, contact Rev. Regan Saoirse at chaplainregan@gmail.com.
Second, bring the shawl to General Synod. Registration volunteers will be there to share information.
Contact Saoirse with photos and numbers completed (including church), questions, or concerns in the email and text below. Thank you.
