Retirement Housing Foundation donates to UCC Disaster Ministries for Nepal earthquake relief
In response to the devastating earthquakes that took place in Nepal in April, the Retirement Housing Foundation has partnered with United Church of Christ Disaster Ministries to provide financial assistance to those trying to rebuild their lives. RHF, a national nonprofit affiliated with the Council for Health and Human Services Ministries of the UCC, pledged to match any donations it received through June 15, and donated nearly $23,000 to Disaster Ministries on June 26 during General Synod.
“UCC Disaster Ministries is grateful for the donation from the Retirement Housing Foundation,” said the Rev. Mary Schaller Blaufuss, team leader of UCC Global Sharing of Resources. “The UCC is committed to the long-term relief efforts in Nepal, and these funds are invaluable to helping those in need.”
RHF received more than $11,000 in donations from individuals, RHF communities, and partner UCC congregations before the deadline, and then made a matching donation. All of the funds will be used for disaster relief efforts to help those impacted by the earthquake.
“This campaign is a wonderful illustration of what can happen when we come together as a community, and your gifts will provide help to those who so desperately need it right now,” said the Rev. Laverne Joseph, President and CEO of RHF. “I am humbled by the generous spirit of our residents, staff, friends, and the United Church of Christ congregations, as together we continue to make a difference in people’s lives. Thank you again to all who participated in this campaign.”
