A patchwork quilt of the human condition took shape on the back wall of the Baltimore Convention Center Sunday afternoon as seven speakers joined the Rev. John Dorhauer, general minister and president of the UCC, to celebrate community worship at General Synod 2017.


The Revs. Elmer and Gisela Lavistida of Santiago, Cuba have been in the United States for 10 days, talking to the people of the United Church of Christ about fostering a stronger relationship between our two countries.


Attired in pink shirts adorned with the swirling wave and the theme words, "Make Glad!", the Central Atlantic Conference's 370 volunteers have greeted arriving General Synod 2017's visitors, directed them around the sprawling Baltimore Convention Center, supported working committees, and even struggled to offer an alternative to the Synod tradition of endless cookies. 


Dr. Camara Phyllis Jones connected racism and the disparities in access to health care before a full house at the Valerie Russell lecture Saturday afternoon.


"People don't want shiny any more," bestselling author Glennon Doyle told General Synod 2017 in Baltimore Saturday morning. "They don't need perfect; they don't even need good. They just want real."
