In the wake of new state legislation and Trump administration policies restricting the reproductive rights of women, a group of clergy and lay people attending the United Church of Christ’s General Synod traveled to a Milwaukee Planned Parenthood clinic after worship on Sunday to join its staff in a service of blessing and solidarity. 


UCC Synodgoers in Milwaukee mark the halfway point of the gathering with food, drink and dance at Sunday’s Shine! Festival. 


During Sunday community worship the Rev. Traci Blackmon called for courage. “The call of Jesus, the call to discipleship, is to something much more dangerous than that, something much more risky than that, something much more challenging than that, something much more transformative than that,”she said. “The call to discipleship is a call to be changed."


Alex Awad, Palestinian American, is sharing his experience as a refugee, speaking to delegates and visitors at General Synod about global forced migration and the resolution of witness under consideration that calls upon members of the United Church of Christ to advocate for the rights and dignity of displaced people.
