Science for the Road Ahead

A Weekly Q&A Webinar for Churches Resuming In-Person Worship

“Is outdoor worship safer than indoor worship? Do we have to wear masks? Can we sing in church again? How do we keep our churches safe? Can we keep our churches safe?”

Across the world, pastors and church leaders are struggling with these questions, trying to navigate the ever-shifting waters of scientific consensus. To that end, the UCC Science and Technology Network is hosting a series of Q&A webinars to shine some light on what we know, what we don’t know, and how to interpret that for your individual context.

Our first session on June 29th at 3:00 p.m. Eastern Time (2:00 p.m. Central Time) will look at masks as a case study. Do they actually work? Do they do more harm than good? Why did the CDC flip-flop on their recommendations so many times? The answers to these questions will illuminate many of the misconceptions about the virus, the scientific method, and help promote good science for the road ahead.

This webinar is co-hosted by two church pastors with a passion for creating opportunities for people of faith to learn about science. The Rev. Dr. Ruth Shaver has written a dissertation on using hands-on science to teach children wonder and curiosity about the world, while the Rev. Zack Jackson Zack additionally hosts a weekly science and religion podcast called “Down the Wormhole.”
