UCC leaders mourn 50 killed in act of terrorism against gay community in Orlando

After the deadliest mass shooting in American history, the General Minister and President of the UCC issues a statement mourning the loss of those murdered, calling for prayers for their families, and expressing horror and frustration over how commonplace this kind of tragedy has become.



Virginia UCC congregation called to 'visit the prisoner'

Each year in June, the United Church of Christ invites congregations and people of faith to visit the prisoner. The denomination helps promote Torture Awareness Month with partner organization the National Religious Campaign Against Torture (NRCAT), providing a way for congregations to learn more about torture, bringing this human rights concern into Sunday services and out into local communities.

'Acts of Service' to honor and celebrate City Mission of Boston as it turns 200

"To act is to care, to care is to do."

That basic tenet of the United Church of Christ fuels the work of the City Mission of Boston. Founded by Old South Church of Boston UCC and Park Street Church of Boston in 1816, City Mission is the oldest multi-service agency in New England, and the second oldest in the United States. And in character, the Mission kicked off a year-long "200 Acts of Service" project this spring to honor its 200th anniversary and celebrate the partnerships that makes its work possible.

Honoring Sacred Time uniting UCC, Muslim faith community in Pacific Northwest

As the holy month of Ramadan begins, there is a concerted effort of interfaith hospitality and solidarity in bloom in the United Church of Christ. In the Pacific Northwest, signs and banners proclaiming "Blessed Ramadan" and "Love Your Muslim Neighbors as Yourself" are posted as part of the Conference's Honoring Sacred Time Campaign.

Elder in UCC's Hispanic Ministry passes

A leader who helped Hispanic ministry make strides within the United Church of Christ is being celebrated for his convictions and his legacy. The first Latino on the UCC national staff, the Rev. Alfonzo Román, died on Saturday, June 4. 

Rhode Island UCC ministers seek to strengthen relationship with Muslim community ahead of Ramadan

Bolstered by the belief that people of faith can overcomes prejudices and arrive at a place of mutual respect, nearly 50 authorized United Church of Christ ministers in the Rhode Island Conference are reaching out, responding to an invitation from their Muslim neighbors ahead of the month of Ramadan to deepen their interfaith relationships.
