United Church of Christ

Express your Love of Creation by participating in the Three Great Loves Tree Planting Campaign!

Over the course of 50 days in 2013, the United Church of Christ planted over 141,000 trees as part of Mission 4/1 Earth. In celebration of the 50th anniversary of Earth Day on April 22nd, this year we are seeking to plant trees from April 17th to 26th.

Trees, one of God’s precious gifts, provide us not only with beauty, but we depend on them for the air we breathe and the stable climate we inhabit. Through your campaign donation, more of these beautiful gifts of creation will be planted and nurtured. In addition to your financial donation, consider having a tree planting service and blessing.

We encourage not only our churches to participate, but individuals also.  Every effort is important whether you are motivated to fight climate change, contribute to the U.N.’s Sustainable Development Goals, or love trees.

In expanding the scope of our collaborative efforts in 2020, the Ministry of Environmental Justice for the United Church of Christ has partnered with Interfaith Power and Light to make this tree planting campaign part of their Faith Climate Action Week. Many of the following tree-planting options come through Global Ministries, a shared ministry of the United Church of Christ and the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ).

Option 1

For $1 a tree, the Arbor Day Foundation will plant numerous trees on your behalf in a national park. Fires, diseases, and insects have taken their toll on natural settings. Your donation will help to rebuild these areas.

Option 2

For $12 a tree, the Organization of African Instituted Churches in Kenya will plant trees on your behalf in areas identified as priority regions for reforestation in East Africa.

Option 3

For $12 a tree, Theological Education by Extension in Zambia will train new Climate Ambassadors who will plant trees on your behalf in communities across Zambia.

Option 4

For $20 a tree, the YMCA/YWCA of Palestine will plant an olive tree and place your name on a plaque as part of an effort where trees have been the target of Israeli military attacks.

Option 5

Plant your own tree or work with an organization of your choosing to plant trees.

Report how many trees you planted in this manner to our partners at Interfaith Power and Light.

Thank you so much for your support of our earth’s resources and contributing to the 50th anniversary of Earth Day. Check our website ucc.org from April 17th to April 26th, for the total number of trees we have supported in our campaign! For more information, contact Rev. Brooks Berndt.
