AAWIM Conference POSTPONED
The AAWIM Core Planning Team received notification from our Conference Site, the Franklinton Center at Bricks, regarding the current conditions in Edgecombe County and surrounding areas. Vivian M. Lucas, Director of the Franklinton Center, shared the following statement with us today:
“We are so sorry. Hurricane Matthew made a bigger impact on North Carolina than expected. Although Franklinton Center at Bricks suffered very little physical damage due to the storm, we have no electrical power at the Center. The very deep and rising waters, flooding, fallen trees on power lines, and washed out roads mean the electric company is unable to make needed repairs to the lines that supply power to the Center for several days. Because of this, Franklinton Center will be unable to host the African American Women in Ministry Conference this week. We are devastated by this turn of events. Some of the small towns in Edgecombe County that FCAB is a part of, are under dangerous flood risk and have been mandated to evacuate as the Tar River crests. Some of the businesses around us are still closed due to loss of power or other hurricane damage. Schools are closed and the communities are still in the recovery and clean-up mode. Please know we are so disappointed. Please let us know if this important event can be rescheduled. We would be so very happy to accommodate you in the future.
Thanks for your love and commitment to Franklinton Center at Bricks.”
Based on several reasons noted above, we regret to inform you that our 2016 African American Women in Ministry Conference will be postponed.
If your travel arrangements to the conference included airline reservations, please notify your airline IMMEDIATELY to obtain a credit for your flight purchase. The disastrous conditions that exist in the area should be communicated to your airline at the time of your credit request. Additionally, if you made hotel reservations outside of the conference registration process, please contact the hotel IMMEDIATELY to cancel before the 24 hour cancellation deadline.
Sisters, we THANK YOU for your understanding of such matters beyond our control. We know that our God will provide an opportunity for us to gather under safer conditions in the sacred space of the Franklinton Center for worship, wisdom exchanges, sister circles, networking and experiences of the creative power of the Holy Spirit within a beloved community of African American women.
The AAWIM Core Planning Team will reconvene once again within the next 24 hours to initiate discussions regarding our rescheduled conference date on the sacred grounds of the Franklinton Center. We will contact you within the next 2 weeks with a new date for our conference – Sisters’ Lives Matter: Facing the Fierce Urgency of Now.
