SUMMARY:Nurture the Soul Special Offering: What’s Next: Building Community w/Faith Practitioners from Across the Country
DESCRIPTION:Join a small group of diverse faith practitioners (campus\, church\, community organizing and board settings) who met through a gathering of people to explore racial justice. In this webinar\, we’ll learn through personal accounts of how they have attended to sacred self-care in complicated and diverse settings; developed strategies and skills for sustaining themselves in their work; confronted their fears personally and collectively in order to model building authentic relationships of trust across our divided Nation. All of this has led to an imagination and practice of what a just world for all looks and feels like and a deep admiration and a sustaining kinship.

SUMMARY:Race to the Polls: Preparing the UCC for the 2024 Election
DESCRIPTION:Almost every ballot measure and candidate policy platform have implications for racial justice because racial disparities are woven into every part of our political system and common life. No matter what your political views are\, in the 2024 election we all will be making choices that either maintain the status quo of racism or create greater equity and justice. In the UCC\, we have the resources of our faith and the covenants we share in our General Synod Resolutions to help guide us\, but with all the information swirling around us\, it can be hard to discern what and who will actually help us build a more just world for all. So we hope you’ll join us for this webinar where we will prayerfully engage in care-full conversation to discover the ways our faithful commitments to intersectional justice and collective liberation can guide our voting and campaigning in this vital moment for democracy in the United States. A special offering from the Racial Justice Ministries and Join the Movement.

SUMMARY:Healing as Freedom\, Freedom as Healing: Lineages of Emancipation toward Wholeness Juneteenth 2024
DESCRIPTION:Racial Justice Ministries and Join the Movement toward Racial Justice invite you to honor and celebrate Juneteenth this year by remembering and discovering the healing practices that sustained freedom in the bones of our ancestors\, before and after emancipation. Through music and prayer\, poetry and art\, reflection\, and ritual\, may we find a medicine bundle\, a libation\, a Brush Harbor and a clearing\, a poultice that teaches us the sound of freedom\, echoing from legacies of healing and singing futures of wholeness. \n“On “Freedom’s Eve\,” or the eve of January 1\, 1863\, the first Watch Night services took place. On that night\, enslaved and free African Americans gathered in churches and private homes all across the country awaiting news that the Emancipation Proclamation had taken effect. At the stroke of midnight\, prayers were answered as all enslaved people in Confederate States were declared legally free. Union soldiers\, many of whom were black\, marched onto plantations and across cities in the south reading small copies of the Emancipation Proclamation spreading the news of freedom in Confederate States. Only through the Thirteenth Amendment did emancipation end slavery throughout the United States.” \nExplore the rich historical legacy of Juneteenth. Deepen practices of restorative healing. Listen and learn from educators\, organizers\, activists\, and next generation leaders. Remember\, God is still Speaking!

SUMMARY:White Christian Nationalism and the Midterm Elections
DESCRIPTION:As congressional hearings into the January 6th attack on the United States Capitol end and in the shadow of the rise of the Neo-Nazi organizations in our nation\, the mid-term election is proving to be as contentious as ever.  Equally\, candidates around the country are trafficking white Christian nationalism.  With each passing election\, fringe political ideas become more and more mainstream.  Simultaneously\, white supremacist ideas at work in Christian practices must be contended with. \nOn November 6th\, 2022\, at 7pmET/4pmPT\, Valley and Mountain Fellowship’s Center for Fatih\, Art and Justice\, in partnership with the UCC’s Join the Movement toward Racial Justice Initiative will host a dialogue between Rev. Dr. Obery Hendricks\, author\, Christians Against Christianity: How Right-Wing Evangelicals Are Destroying Our Nation and Our Faith and Dr. Anthea Butler\, author\, White Evangelical Racism: The Politics of Morality in America. The topic is White Christian Nationalism and the Midterm Elections. The dialogue will be moderated by the Right Rev. Dr. Edward Donalson\, III\, author #BlackLivesMatter: Toward an Intersectional Theology.  The event will be live streamed.

SUMMARY:Juneteenth: Revealing Hidden Histories
DESCRIPTION:Remembering the day that news of emancipation reached the last outpost of enslaved people in Texas\, Juneteenth acknowledges God’s sacred people of African descent. Sacred acknowledgment is recognition of birthplace—the cradle of civilization on the continent of Africa. Sacred acknowledgement is celebration of cultural expressions as first peoples\, free people\, multilingual\, multiethnic\, and multi-talented artisans\, scientists\, creators\, builders\, navigators\, writers\, thinkers\, and orators. Sacred acknowledgement is remembering and honoring the generations of untold stories that are waiting to be revealed within these sacred bodies. \nAmidst growing efforts to suppress the truths of our history\, join the United Church of Christ for our Juneteenth 2022 Celebration as African and African American descendants\n— geniuses of spoken word and cultural oral traditions—reveal hidden histories so we might take up our roles in the unfolding story of God’s liberating love.

SUMMARY:Descended From the Promised Land: The Legacy of Black Wall Street
DESCRIPTION:In honor of Black Histories/Futures Month\, and just over one hundred years after the notorious massacre in the Greenwood District of Tulsa\, aka Black Wall Street\, we are honored to host a screening of the short film DESCENDED FROM THE PROMISED LAND: THE LEGACY OF BLACK WALL STREET that draws a century-long thread from 1921 to 2021\, revealing the lingering economic\, psychological and emotional impacts of the Tulsa Massacre through the lens of descendants. Descendants Byron Crenshaw\, Jacqueline Blocker and their family members reach back to uplift the stories of their ancestors\, the success they created\, the promise they fulfilled\, the horrors they endured and the resilience they showed. Invoking the deep entrepreneurial spirit of those who created one of the greatest Black communities this country has ever known\, Byron and Jacqueline imagine a path forward to recapture the Black joy that once permeated Tulsa’s Black Wall Street.  A panel discussion with descendants featured in the film will follow the screening
