St. John United Church of Christ, Freeport, Ill., and First Congregational UCC, Walla Walla, Wash., are the latest of some 90 UCC congregations that have gone solar, welcoming lower energy costs but equally motivated by faith.


Supporting young climate-justice activists, United Church of Christ representatives led and were active in interfaith events in New York City and Washington, D.C. – and issued calls for action – during a Week of Climate Action. The week started with a worldwide Climate Strike on Friday, Sept. 20, and continues through Friday, Sept. 27.


Across the country, United Church of Christ members, following the lead of young people everywhere, joined millions striking in the United States and around the world in a call to action on the climate crisis.


Energized by an interfaith chapel service, some 75 Clevelanders of faith – including members of the United Church of Christ's national staff and local churches – showed up to support a youth-led Climate Strike that drew a couple hundred people downtown on Friday, Sept. 20, a day of similar demonstrations around the world.


For the sake of children, the World Council of Churches wants to redouble its efforts to fight climate breakdown. Empowering young people as activists will be part of that strategy, aided by a $25,000 environmental prize the WCC has won and by educational materials co-developed by the United Church of Christ.


A Michigan UCC congregation had a pretty hands-on way of celebrating Earth Day. After their pastor preached an award-winning sermon about how people of faith are called to be caretakers of God's creation, members immediately put that call into action, continuing Sunday worship outdoors using their hands and feet.


A group of young people in a New Hampshire UCC congregation concerned about climate change plan to fund creation care in developing nations by feeding their family and friends.


A United Church of Christ congregation in an Arizona retirement community is living into the 3 Great Loves initiative by supporting area teachers with school supplies.
