New Selves Don't Whitewash History

We need to wonder what the old U.S. self has to say to the new U.S. self, and what it might finally look like to "put off" the old self.

Relax, It's Saturday

Would it be the worst thing in the world to curl up in a blanket with a bowl of cereal and watch cartoons? This is the Lord's day. Enjoy it.

Knowledge and Wisdom

Our compulsion to consume news risks filling us with an anxiety and outrage that can enervate our ability to act. It lures us into a kind of idolatry—thinking that it all depends on us.

Not Just For Funerals

God fills our cups, not just until there is enough, but until they overflow with so much goodness that we can't help but share it.

Guilty

It occurs to me that my guilt reflects vanity and weak faith. Taking responsibility for one's actions is good; nagging guilt, however, is evidence of self-absorption, turning away from God.

Holy Spirit Super Power

You have the very best superpower of all: the Holy Spirit. The power of grace. The power to dream. The power to choose solidarity over privilege, and understanding over judgment.

The Years the Locust Has Eaten

Pain and oppression have lasting consequences, scrawled across generations, written into our bones. So God images true restoration: of meaningful reparation, of healing down to the bone.

All Together

After Easter, the disciples gathered together often, trying to make sense of life without Jesus.

Interrupted

Your call to follow Jesus may put you at risk. It may make you naked, vulnerable. It may make you the target of trolls. Amidst it all: get your rest, love your God.

Willows

Mending broken relationships is not only personal, it is our work as stewards of God's creation. There is more that can be mended than we know.
