We don't have to pretend everything is okay when it isn't. We don't have to protect God from our anger or anguish. God can take it.
Lent is a time to learn who and whose we are, to prepare for what is to come, to create a life-shaping bond with the Holy One that not even death will be able to break.
We confess and pray: Defier of Labels, teach me to meet my neighbors in their fullness.
The discipline of rejoicing is an act of resistance when injustices and struggles pile up. If we do that much, we triumph.

God knows that behind every revenge fantasy and every bit of righteous anger and every unholy wish for our enemies’ demise lies some ancient hurt or old wrong or fresh wound. And God bends down from on high to gather our tears.
Still, you can’t offer Mercy to an enemy every week and not start to mean it, even a little. You can’t put Healing in someone’s hand for months on end without something rubbing off.
God give me the courage to be a vessel for Your light, a channel for Your grace, a laborer in the vineyard of Your peaceable Realm.
Hope can feel impossible and maybe even absurd. But hope is more than issues and ideas. Hope is where we find God.
