Holy Disobedience

Maybe we don’t all feel called to civil disobedience. But as Christians, we are all called to holy disobedience to disrupt harm, both in the streets and in our churches.

To the Churches

We often read the Bible as if it’s addressed only to individuals. Except it mostly isn’t. How does it change our understanding to know that Scripture’s words are not for us alone?

Today

There is a tomorrow. And if there is a tomorrow, that must mean there is a today. And today is as good a time as any to start again.

Questions and Answers

“How am I going to do this?” is a very good question. May the answer be “never alone.”

Lord of the Sabbath

I have loved rules. Many times, I have stood in fields of abundance but have noticed only rule infractions. But among Christ’s many names, none of them is The Lord of the Rules.

Refugee

Many of us have been thinking and talking about refugees. And many of us who think and talk about refugees have options for staying safe. May those without options find mercy.

Wrapped Around a Rock

Pinyon pine trees in northern New Mexico have roots that are 20 feet long, curling around rocks to hold them against storms. What are our lives wrapped around and holding onto?

Render the Tender

It’s said that life is God’s gift to us and what we do with life is our gift back to God. I take it a step further: My life belongs to God. My life is God’s currency in the world.

Scoffers? Pshaw. Scoffers are losers.

What if we could disagree with someone and still treat them with respect? If we could be angry without belittling others? If we could remember that God loves the person we’re scoffing?

The Blessing of the Darkness

Even as communities lose their rights and neighbors flee their persecution, the depths of our commitments to each other are gestating in the great womb that promises new life.
