Books of the Bible: Psalm

What does it mean to be saved from aimlessness?

I come from God and will return to God. The psalmist's highest aspiration is to be one sheep in God's flock. Not the best. Not the wooliest. Not the bleat-ing-est. Just one in God's many.

What noises accompany the activities that bring you joy? Maybe it's an instrument or voice, the hum of a sewing machine or the rasp of a pencil. Make a joyful noise to the Lord!

Sheep are a mess. The evidence of their presence turns a pasture brown. Clearly they are thoughtless, clumsy beings who need to be led in right paths. I could sympathize.

It is legal to leave water for non-human animals in the desert. Leaving water for humans who crossed the border illegally is a federal crime. O God, may love never be criminal. Amen.

Ours is a God who knows the journey, who is on the move, who goes ahead of us. You will be upheld. You will be sustained, in your going out and coming in. Trust this.

No rejection is indicative of our divine destiny. The power of the resurrection is the power to step outside the molds of safe assimilation to be the authentic presence God created us to be.

Matt Laney

You know grief and loss. You've been hurt a thousand times. As impossible as it might feel, trust that blessing is already embracing your anguish and that God will indeed turn the page.
