The United Church of Christ Presents: Restoring Beauty – An Evening of Beautiful Music
Join the United Church of Christ for an evening of beautiful music from gifted musicians and vocalists. The live performance is Thursday, June 25, 2020, 6:00 pm – 7:30 pm EST. You are invited to recline and listen to instruments of grace, songs of joy and lament, and experience the Spirit of God through acts of harmony and lyrics.
Console the mourners harmed by racism and acts of state sanctioned violence
Give them a crown of beauty for their grief and comfort for their tear stained faces and heartache
Anoint their black bodies with scented oil and clothe them with garments of Kente clothe
Make room for the Spirit to inhabit the mourning bench and lament with those in despair
They are oaks of righteousness planted by our God in the soils of Africa
And the departed loved ones will be with our God forever. Ashe and Amen
An ensemble of gifted performers will pay tribute to the lives of Ahmaud Arbery, Beonna Taylor, and George Floyd. Performances include members of the Cleveland Orchestra, Ms. Pat Harris and our very own Rev. Tracy Howe Wispelwey.
Acts of violence against African Americans breaks the heart, wounds the soul, and traumatizes families who must bury their sons, daughters, and friends. We weep, mourn and lament. We suffer with and support communities of color. And we stand in solidarity with protesters who bear the historical realities of a nation that created the laws and myths supporting white nationalism and supremacy. The killing of black people must end.
