2020 Book Discussion featuring Rev. Dr. Jennifer Harvey

The United Church of Christ (UCC) Racial Justice Ministry is pleased to host Rev. Dr. Jennifer Harvey. Jennifer is committed to justice. She is a renowned author, pastor, and theologian. Jennifer addresses issues of racism honestly and openly in order to decenter whiteness. It is through her writing, preaching, teaching and speaking that she invites white Christians in particular into an introspective look at the myth of whiteness as a way to dismantle the reality of white supremacy and nationalism within the U.S. Her work is vital to encourage the Christian Church to actively work for justice for all. Her books include:

Jennifer’s books are a testament to what the Christian Church needs to be reading and studying in order to create a racially just world.

Jennifer Harvey is Professor of Religion and Faculty Director of the Crew Scholars Program at Drake University. Her teaching, writing and public speaking focus on encounters of religion and ethics with race, gender, activism, politics, spirituality, justice and any other aspect of social life in which religion decides to “show up.” Her greatest passion and longtime work, however, continually return to racial justice and white anti-racism. Dr. Harvey’s most recent book is Raising White Kids: Bringing Up Children in a Racially Unjust America (Abingdon Press). She is also the author of Dear White Christians: For Those Still Longing for Racial Reconciliation and Whiteness and Morality: Pursuing Racial Justice through Reparations and Sovereignty. Dr. Harvey publishes in a variety of academic contexts and public venues including the New York Times and the Huffington Post and is a much sought after public speaker and workshop leader.
