Lent -- Prayer for Seminary Sunday: Vocations Sunday

Third Sunday of Lent

This prayer is a litany written for everyone who longs for meaning and purpose in life, for a sense of call or vocation that is Spirit-filled and truth-filled. This is a prayer for clergy, laity and seminarians alike. (John 4:5-42)

Leader: As we gather today, thirsty for meaning, we turn our gaze inward to the spring of water that is the source of life.

All: God is spirit and we are called to worship in spirit and truth.

Leader: Wash over our churches, seminaries and vocational "homes" with a new spirit, opening our long-held traditions to renewal and change.

All: God is spirit and we are called to worship in spirit and truth.

Leader: Challenge our churches, seminaries and work places to remain ever open and welcoming to people of all walks of life.

All: God is spirit and we are called to worship in spirit and truth.

Leader: Cleanse us of those ideas we have acquired without thought, and reveal to us what we truly believe.

All: God is spirit and we are called to worship in spirit and truth.

Leader: Draw us back to the well of joy and abundance within us all, that we may not feel parched by the demands of everyday life.

All: God is spirit and we are called to worship in spirit and truth.

Leader: Guide our steps so that our lives and work reflect who you have called us to be and what you have called us to do.

All: Let us not labor in vain, but live and work with passion and wisdom, inspired by the Holy Spirit. Amen.
