Pentecost -- Freedom in God's Love

Fifth Sunday after Pentecost

Call to Worship

For the beauty of your Creation
We praise you, O God.
For your loving kindness
We praise you, O God.
For the freedom with which you created us
We praise you, O God.
For the native inhabitants of this land, the original landlords
We praise you, O God.
For this nation, a nation of immigrants
We praise you, O God.
For each nation and nationality represented here
We praise you, O God.
For the opportunity to praise and adore you
We bless you and give you thanks, O God, today and forever. Amen.

Beloved God, in this hour we call upon your presence among us. We ask you to touch our hearts so that we may leave this place transformed and prepared to enter our respective communities as agents of change, of light and of hope. In Christ Jesus we pray. Amen.

Prayer of Confession

Almighty God, you know our hearts and you know our daily actions. At this moment, we enter your presence with humility to ask your forgiveness. Forgive us, Dear Lord, for those things that offend you with our actions, and for those things we have left undone.

For not living as you have taught us to live.
Forgive us, dear God.
For surrendering to cheap passions and empty desires.
Forgive us, dear God.
For our false pride, our arrogance, and our vanity.
Forgive us, dear God.
For our knee jerk reactions,
and our insensitivity to our own sisters and brothers.
Forgive us, dear God.
For our silence against injustice in the world
Forgive us, dear God.

In these times in which we appear to lose all hope and when our faith appears to weaken, we ask your forgiveness, your divine direction, and your help, that our absolute faith in you may be renewed, and that our hope in your promises and our love for our neighbor might be awakened. We pray this in the name of your Son, Jesus Christ, our Savior and our friend. Amen.

Assurance Of Pardon

Beloved sisters and brothers, our God assures us in the Word that if we confess our sins, God is faithful and just to forgive us all our faults and to deliver us from all evil. We trust in God's promises. We will rejoice for our sins have been forgiven. Let us share this joy with one another in the Passing of the Peace.

The Passing of The Peace

Invitation to the Offering

Our tithes and offerings represent the sharing of our service to God and our commitment with the community of faith. With joy in our hearts we give to God these offerings.

The Dedication

Thank you, O God, for we return to you what you have given us out of your abundance. We dedicate these offerings and our very lives to you. Use them to help build a more just society where the signs of your reign may be manifest every day: where we will study war no more and your shalom will reign, where we may live in true freedom, where security will be based on dignity and respect for all human beings regardless of race, color, sexual orientation or national passports. Let us see a world where love reigns above all things and true understanding exists among each other. Accept these gifts that we bring to you and commission us to fulfill your great mission. In Christ's name we pray. Amen.

And now may the grace, mercy and peace of God, Mother and Father of us all, and our Savior, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit be with us all and guide us to fulfill this mission: that God's love and power inspire us through this week and throughout our earthly journey. Amen.
