Where is a cleft in the rock of war for refugees to hide? In the last decade, Syria was the destination for one million refugees seeking safety from war-torn Iraq. In August 2012, more than one-and-a-half million Syrians were seeking asylum from the escalating violence in their own country. International Orthodox Christian Charities (IOCC) – a partner of the United Church of Christ – has reached out to displaced and vulnerable Syrian families. "The situation remains unstable and we know that there are at least a million and a half people within the country who are in need of essential food and other assistance including those who have been displaced and others who have been trapped in their homes. Despite the humanitarian efforts underway, hundreds of thousands of people require immediate food assistance in order to survive," said Mark Ohanian, IOCC director of programs.
