1 Corinthians 14:1-12
It will come as no great surprise that there is a correlation between high poverty rates and a lack of education. Phoukhua Village in Laos is a prime example of that correlation – especially for the minority Khmu ethnic group. Global Ministries, in association with Church World Service, initiated the establishment of a secondary school in Phoukhua Village to provide the education necessary to break the bonds of poverty. The chain of events that begins with education leads to higher income levels, better health profiles, improvements in the environment and agricultural production, and development of more opportunities for advancement. Funds from CWS will help provide housing for teachers and students, clean water and sanitation services, and teacher training. The addition of boarding facilities for students will increase attendance at the school by opening the opportunity to the eight surrounding villages in Oudomxay Province. The group of possible enrollees includes approximately 1,500 recently graduated primary students with an additional 200 to 300 new graduates each year.
