Alderson Hospitality House (Alderson)

Mission:  Offers support to incarcerated women by providing hospitality to family and friends who come to visit them.  (www.aldersonhospitalityhouse.org) 

Volunteer Position:  House coordinator to welcome people, provide a listening ear, offer transportation, and assist with housekeeping and house maintenance.  Office skills and Spanish are helpful.

Period:  Flexible

Apply by:  3 months prior to requested start date

Housing:  Community living with other volunteers and those served

Minimum Age:  19 years 

 Appalachian South Folklife Center (Pipestem)

Mission:  serves children and youth from around the area, providing various learning experiences through day camps and workshops that cover topics including tolerance, anger management, and environmental consciousness. (www.folklifecenter.org) 

Volunteer Position:  Office Assistant/Program Implementation.

Period:  June - August

Apply by:  March 15

Housing:  Private space in volunteer housing

 Bethlehem Farm (Pence Springs)

Mission:  Bethlehem Farm is a Catholic Community in Appalachia that strives to transform lives through serving the local community and teaching sustainability.  Volunteers join in living out the Gospel cornerstones of prayer, community, simplicity and service.  (www.bethlehemfarm.net/main)  

Volunteer Position:  Caretakers or Summer Servants live in community, run the farm and home repair program with group staff and volunteer caretakers.

Period: Caretaker - 12 month placements, begin throughout year.  Summer Servant - 2-6 weeks, April - October *Only room and board provided.
