National restructure: It's a work in progress
By the time you read this, the UCC Desk Calendar and Plan Book should be in the mail.
After months of delay to accommodate an up-to-date listing of national staff, it went to the printer in October and was scheduled to be mailed on Monday, Nov. 6. One copy each will be sent free to each local church pastor, associate pastor and assistant pastor.
Additional copies may be ordered at $9.50 each from UCC Resources at 800-325-7061.
31 positions still open
As of Oct. 21, 31 staff positions remained unfilled of the 262 available in the UCC's national settings. (For job descriptions, go to the UCC web site and click on "classifieds.")
From a field of 1,200 applications, to date 231 positions have been filled. Of these, 130 were filled by continuing employees and 101 (or nearly 40 percent) by persons applying through an "external" search. Eighteen employees accepted positions in the new structure but left within the 90-day trial period. Of these, 11 voluntarily resigned and seven were asked to leave.
Construction to come
Construction of staff offices has yet to begin, so many staff members are located in temporary offices.
Once the city of Cleveland issues a building permit, expected the last week in October, construction will begin. Estimates are that most employees will be in their new offices by late spring.
