Arianna Aerie is on her way to Maseru Children's Village in Lesotho, Africa, and has invited all of us along. Aerie will keeping an online journal entitled "The world beyond my window: My Africa Diary," to be posted and updated weekly on the Global Ministries website.
Monthly summaries also will appear in United Church News.
Aerie is going to Africa to see first-hand what she couldn't see beyond the TV, newspapers and internet reports. She's going to investigate the world beyond her window.
A graduate of the Rod Serling School of Fine Arts at Binghamton (N.Y.) High School with a focus in music and theater, she attended Oberlin College for two years before deciding that some time off from academia was in order.
She has spent the past four months working in a group home for adults with mental disabilities as a direct care professional. Throughout her time there, Aeire served as friend, teacher and cheerleader for eight women, helping them with everyday tasks and promoting the greatest amount of independence possible for the residents.
Aerie is excited and anxious about her trip to Africa, and she welcomes you along as she gets a new perspective on what it means to be a global citizen.
