Search committees set for two UCC officers
The Executive Council and the board of directors of Wider Church Ministries have each acted independently and named a search committee to seek, respectively, one candidate for Associate General Minister and one candidate for Executive Minister of Wider Church Ministries.
Because the five members of the new Collegium of officers were elected to staggered terms, the initial terms of these two will expire next year.
According to the UCC Bylaws, all officers of the UCC shall be limited to three terms.
However, the two current officers, Edith A. Guffey and Dale Bishop, are eligible for renomination.
The two persons selected by the search committee will be presented first to their respective boards of directors next spring. If renominated by those boards, they will be presented to General Synod 24, to be held in Minneapolis, July 11-15, 2003, for call by election to full, four-year terms.
Each search committee will meet throughout 2002 and, if necessary, in early 2003, in order to select the recommended candidates in time to present them, respectively, to the Executive Council (for Associate General Minister) and to the WCM Board (for the WCM Executive Minister) at their spring meetings.
Later this month, the deadlines and mailing address for nominations and self-applications for both positions will be announced, posted on the UCC website and carried in the July-August edition of United Church News.
Also to be announced is the name of a consultant from outside the national setting who will staff both committees.
