The Rev. John H. Thomas.

The Rev. John H. Thomas, the UCC's General Minister and President, has been nominated for re-election by the Executive Council. The vote took place at the Council's March 16 meeting in Cleveland. Thomas will be presented to General Synod 23, meeting in Kansas City, Mo., July 13-17, for call by election to a full, four-year term.

The first Collegium of UCC officers were elected at General Synod 22 in 1999 to staggered terms. The terms of Thomas and the Rev. José (Joe) A. Malayang will expire this year.

Malayang's name will be presented to the Local Church Ministries board of directors at its April 19-22 meeting for nomination to a second term as Executive Minister.

Bernice Powell Jackson, Executive Minister of Justice and Witness Ministries, was elected to a six-year term, which will expire in 2005. Dale Bishop, Executive Minister of Wider Church Ministries, and Edith Guffey, Associate General Minister, were elected for four-year terms, expiring in 2003. All three officers will be eligible for re-election.
