Synod votes to resist actions seeking to undermine the status of women July 2, 2013
By an overwhelming majority, delegates to General Synod 2013 approved the amended resolution, “Resisting Actions Seeking to Undermine the Status of Women in Society.” Responding to a wide range of legislative initiatives threatening women’s free access to health care, equal pay, and reproductive choice, the measure calls upon the bodies of the United Church of Christ to “publicly address and challenge policies, ideologies, and theologies that promote the inferiority and subjugation of women.”
UCC's 'Faith,In Project' promoted as bottom-up community development July 2, 2013
Last summer, the United Church of Christ invited members and congregations to live their faith, and love their communities through the "Faith,In Project.” That call to action, to make your faith visible through mission and community outreach, was echoed July 1 at General Synod 2013, as author Peter Kageyama reminded delegates and visitors at the Long Beach Convention Center that faith in their cities is as important as ever.

Delegates to the United Church of Christ General Synod have several pieces of business to consider as they meet this week in Long Beach, Calif. For the Rev. Rita Nakashima Brock and the Rev. Quinn Caldwell, its important to remind those who are deliberating that “there is danger in too much focus on work.” Brock and Quinn are leading theological reflections, which bring an end to each business session during the United Church of Christ General Synod this week.
UCC votes to further relationship with UC-Canada, welcome veterans, assess conference borders July 1, 2013
United Church of Christ's General Synod 2013 overwhelmingly passed several of the first resolutions that came to the floor. Moving forward, UCC settings will broaden an ecumenical relationship with the United Church of Canada, extend an extravagant welcome to all war veterans and their families, and further a dialogue to examine redrawing UCC conference boundaries.

More than 200 of the Youth @ General Synod were able to meet with author Lillian Daniel on Sunday June 30, posing what she called "some of the best questions I've ever been asked.” A pastor, author and writer in the United Church of Christ’s StillSpeaking Writers’ Group, Daniel's recent book, "When 'Spiritual But Not Religious' is Not Enough," was selected for the "Youth Read" program at General Synod 2013.
