Attendees of General Synod 28 in Tampa, Fla., will have an opportunity to rock on.

The God Is Still Rocking Rock-a-thon for the New and Renewing Churches Endowment Fund will be held each day of Synod July 1-5. Participants will have the chance to sit in a comfortable chair and peacefully rock, donating $1 a minute for each minute to UCC new and renewing churches.

"We've had walk-a-thons at the past couple of Synods for the New and Renewing Churches Endowment Fund," said the Rev. David Schoen, UCC minister and leader of the Congregational Vitality and Discipleship Ministry Team. "But we thought a walk-a-thon in Tampa (in the summer) might not work."

On each of the five days of Synod, the rocking chair will be in the Rotunda area of the first floor of the Tampa Convention Center.

Available rocking times and dates are:

• 10 a.m. – 3 p.m. Friday (July 1)
• 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. Saturday (July 2)
• 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. Sunday (July 3)
• 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. and 4-6 p.m. Monday (July 4)
• 9:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. Tuesday (July 5)

"Having it at different times throughout Synod allows a greater opportunity for people to participate when they can," said Schoen. "It's a nice location, looking out over the water. People can sit in a nice chair in air-conditioned comfort and help us raise funds."

Synod-goers can participate by check or cash on site. Others' donations can be made online at <>. Checks can also be sent to: United Church of Christ, God Is Still Rocking, 700 Prospect Ave., Cleveland, Ohio 44115.

Donations are tax-deductible and will help Local Church Ministries continue to financially support new and renewing churches that are spreading the Stillspeaking word, extending extravagant welcome and changing lives.
