Indicating that she became UCC by marriage, but is now "UCC by conviction,Ó Olivia Masih White, 66, a genetics professor, seminary graduate and ecumenical lay leader, was elected executive minister of Wider Church Ministries by voice vote on Monday, July 14, at the UCC's General Synod 24 in Minneapolis. She succeeds Dale L. Bishop, who chose not to seek another four-year term.

Edith Guffey, 49, was re-elected to serve a second term as associate general minister. In that capacity, she oversees the day-to-day operations of the UCC's Office of General Ministries in Cleveland. "Administration is like an enabling motion and should support and undergird the program and ministries that more directly do the transformational work to which we are called,Ó she said in her Synod address.

By virtue of their offices, both will serve as members of the five-person Collegium of Officers, the UCC's non-hierarchical national leadership circle.
