Dr. David Satcher
Dr. David Satcher, Assistant Secretary for Health and the Surgeon General of the United States, will address the "Twin Scandals" luncheon on Saturday, July 14, at General Synod 23 in Kansas City, Mo.
Satcher is the nation's leading spokesperson on matters of public health.
By advocating for effective disease prevention and health promotion programs and activities, his role is to educate the public and provide leadership and management to protect and advance the nation's health.
And what are the twin scandals? The 44 million Americans who lack health insurance and the 36 million Americans who live in poverty.
The luncheon, which will feature a discussion on the role of the faith community in tackling these two issues, is being sponsored by a group of UCC ministries: the Health and Wellness Program of Justice and Witness Ministries, the UCC Welfare Working Group, the UCC Parish Nurse Network, the UCC Physician's Network, and the UCC Health Care Task Force.
For information on Satcher's appearance, contact Barbara T. Baylor, Minister for Health and Wellness Programs, 700 Prospect Ave., Cleveland, OH 44115-1100; phone 216-736-3708; e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
